A new announcement reveals that NCSoft America and EmptyVessel have entered a partnership to publish their upcoming cyberpunk shooter, DEFECT.
The new partnership enables a team of former developers from franchises such as DOOM, Call of Duty, and The Last of Us to gain “stability and publishing power.” This support allows the developers to allocate resources to both multiplayer and single-player gameplay. The upcoming tactical shooter will be released on multiple platforms, with a release date to be announced later.
DEFECT Gets Support from NCSoft
The Emptyvessel team consists of developers with over 100 years of combined experience in creating AAA games for major franchises, including DOOM, Quake, Call of Duty, and The Last of Us. Emanuel Palalic, the CEO, has stated that the support and guidance from NCSoft will help establish a solid foundation for DEFECT’s single-player experience. Jeonghee “JJ” Jin, CEO of NC America and COO of NC West/Arenanet, expressed confidence in DEFECT, stating that the company “strongly believes DEFECT’s intense gameplay shows great promise in today’s competitive FPS landscape.”
DEFECT is set in a dystopian city ruled by an authoritarian AI known as ‘The System,’ which enforces its control through “inhuman logic.” Players can align themselves with various dangerous factions and choose between a single-player mode for a more immersive offline experience or a multiplayer option that includes both PvP and PvE gameplay. The game features “explosive, close-quarters firefights” with dynamic multi-objective battles that utilize advanced weapons and technology.
