Lucra expands fan engagement platform with acquisition of reality TV gaming app Bracketology

Lucra has acquired Bracketology, a free-to-play fantasy gaming and prediction platform for reality television fans, expanding its social competition ecosystem into one of entertainment’s most engaged audiences while creating new opportunities to monetize fan participation through rewards and gamification.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The transaction adds a platform with more than 1.2 million registered users to Lucra’s portfolio and extends the company’s gamification technology into the reality TV market. Bracketology reached more than 100,000 monthly active users during last fall’s peak reality television season, building its audience through organic growth and partnerships with media brands including Us Weekly and FOX.

Founded as Bach Bracket, a fantasy sports-style game centered on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, the platform evolved into Bracketology, offering prediction games and fantasy competitions across a broad lineup of reality television programming. The business established a loyal community without significant paid marketing, making it an attractive acquisition target for Lucra as it expands its consumer engagement strategy.

Under the transaction, Bracketology will continue operating as a standalone brand while integrating Lucra’s free-to-play rewards software development kit (SDK). The technology will introduce rewards-based competitions across the platform, allowing users to compete for incentives while participating in fantasy games and prediction contests tied to their favorite shows.

Lucra also plans to introduce custom mobile mini-games that extend fan engagement beyond weekly television broadcasts, creating additional touchpoints throughout each season and increasing opportunities for recurring user activity.

“Most platforms spend years and millions of dollars chasing what Kaitlyn and Jonah achieved by simply making something people genuinely wanted,” said Dylan Robbins, founder and CEO of Lucra. “They built a million-person community around reality TV without a marketing budget, without outside help, and with minimal spend on paid acquisition. That’s the kind of energy we’re excited to bring onto the Lucra team.”

Robbins added that the acquisition also brings valuable expertise in community building and organic audience growth that can benefit Lucra’s broader client base.

The acquisition provides Lucra with access to a demographic that has historically been underserved by many gamification platforms. More than 60% of Bracketology’s users are women, giving Lucra an opportunity to broaden the reach of its rewards platform while diversifying its audience across entertainment categories.

As part of the integration, Bracketology co-founders Kaitlyn Hurley and Jonah Fialkow will join Lucra. Hurley will serve as Director of Bracketology, helping lead product development and community engagement as the platform enters its next phase of growth.

“I started Bach Bracket because I couldn’t find anything that matched the way Bachelor Nation actually watches—obsessively, competitively, together,” Hurley said. “Joining Lucra means we finally have the tools to give those fans what they’ve always deserved—real rewards for their loyalty, richer experiences between episodes, and a competitive layer that matches the intensity they already bring.”

The companies have already begun rolling out new content around current reality television programming, including fantasy games for Big Brother Season 28 and Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro. Lucra said its rewards SDK will be introduced to Bracketology users during the second half of the current season, further expanding competitive gameplay and loyalty features.

For Lucra, the acquisition advances its strategy of embedding gamified competition into consumer experiences across entertainment, hospitality and other industries. The company’s white-label platform enables partners to add peer-to-peer competitions using real-money or rewards while managing payments, compliance, fraud prevention and settlement through a single technology platform.

By combining Bracketology’s established fan community with Lucra’s gamification infrastructure, the company is positioning itself to capitalize on growing demand for interactive entertainment experiences that deepen user engagement, strengthen loyalty and create new revenue opportunities for content platforms and media partners.
